Offbeat stores your puzzle progress, streak and settings in your own browser's local storage. That data never leaves your device, and I cannot see it.

There are no accounts, no cookies, no analytics, no trackers and no third-party scripts.

The page makes one network request, and only if you ask it to. Finishing the Stop game offers to post your time to that day's leaderboard. If you press that button, and only then, your browser sends three things to this site: the puzzle number, your total time in milliseconds, and the two-word name the game generated for you. Nothing else. If you never press it, the page makes no network request at all after it loads, and you can confirm that yourself in your browser's network tab.

The leaderboard stores no account, no email, and no name you typed. You cannot type one. To keep one person from filling the board, it stores a one-way hash of your IP address mixed with that day's puzzle number. Because the puzzle number is part of what is hashed, the same person on two different days produces two unrelated values, so it cannot be used to follow anyone. Boards are deleted after two weeks.

Keeping that true takes one extra step, so it is worth stating: content delivery networks routinely inject their own analytics scripts into the pages they serve. This site is served with Cache-Control: no-transform and with those features switched off, which forbids that. Its Content-Security-Policy is connect-src 'self', so this page cannot contact any third party even if something on it tried to. If you ever find a script here that did not come from me, I would like to know about it.

Clearing your browser data erases your stats permanently, and there is no copy of them anywhere else.

One third party exists, and it is the host. The site is served by Cloudflare Pages, which terminates TLS and keeps standard request logs (IP address, time, and what was requested) as part of delivering any website. I do not read them and could not link them to a player if I did. That is a knowingly accepted trade for free static hosting, not a claim of zero third parties. The page is clean; the hosting is a service like any other. See Cloudflare's own privacy policy for what they retain.

Why there is no cookie banner

There are no cookies. The local storage this game uses holds only your own game state, carries no identifier, and is never transmitted, which puts it under the strictly-necessary exemption. If analytics or ads are ever added to the site, that changes, and so will this page.
